Introduction to the NFL

The National Football League (NFL) is one of the most popular professional sports leagues in the United States, founded in 1920. It consists of 32 teams divided into two conferences: the American Football Conference (AFC) and the National Football Conference (NFC). Each conference is further divided into four divisions: East, West, South, and North.
History and Development

The NFL's precursor was the American Professional Football Association (APFA), which was renamed the NFL in 1922. Initially, the league was small, but it expanded over the years through mergers and additions, including the important merger with the rival American Football League (AFL). This growth has shaped the NFL into its modern form.
