I want to tell you about my visit to grocery stores in three different cities. The cities are Cincinnati, Colorado, and Charlotte NC. I went there on a trip. I like to visit grocery stores because I can see what people buy and eat. Also, I can learn how different each place is.

The first place I went to was Cincinnati. It is in the state of Ohio. The grocery store I visited was Kroger. It is a big and popular store. When I walked inside, I saw many food items. There were fruits, vegetables, meat, milk, and snacks. Everything looked fresh and clean. The store was big. It had many aisles. I saw signs like “Produce”, “Dairy”, and “Frozen Foods”. I found apples, bananas, and oranges in the fruit section. The price was okay, not too expensive. People there were friendly. One worker smiled at me and said, “Hi, how can I help you?” I felt happy.

In Cincinnati, many people go shopping on the weekend. I went on a Saturday, so it was a little crowded. Families with kids were shopping together. I also saw people using coupons. They had paper coupons and scanned them at checkout. It was new for me.

After Cincinnati, I traveled to Colorado. I visited a city called Denver. The grocery store I went to was Safeway. It was not as big as Kroger, but still had many items. The store looked neat and organized. I saw fresh bread, cheese, and coffee. The bread smelled very good. I bought one and ate it after I left the store. It was soft and warm.

At Safeway, there was a special area for local products. I saw honey made in Colorado, and also some jams and cookies. I think that was very nice. It helps local people sell their food. The workers were also helpful. One man helped an old lady find her milk. That was kind.

Colorado has cold weather, so many people buy hot drinks and soup. I saw one man buying five cans of soup. I also bought tea from there. It was cheap and good.

Then I went to Charlotte, North Carolina. I visited a store called Harris Teeter. It was clean and modern. When I went in, I saw flowers for sale. That was nice. The store had many healthy items. There were organic fruits and vegetables. Some people like to buy organic food because they think it is better. I bought some strawberries and yogurt. They tasted good.

In Charlotte, many people care about health. I saw a lot of salad, vitamins, and water. There was even a special section for gluten-free food. I did not know much about gluten-free before. Now I know it is food with no wheat or flour.

At Harris Teeter, I used a self-checkout machine for the first time. I scanned my items and paid with my card. It was fun. I felt proud that I did it alone.

Each city and store had something different. In Cincinnati, the store was very big and had many families. In Colorado, the store had local items and a nice smell. In Charlotte, the store had healthy food and self-checkout.

But there were also things that were the same. All the stores were clean. All had nice workers. All had food from America and other countries. For example, I saw noodles from Asia and chocolate from Europe.

I learned a lot from going to these stores. I learned how people shop. I saw what food is popular. I learned new words like “organic”, “coupon”, and “self-checkout”. I also practiced English when I talked to workers.

Going to grocery stores was a fun part of my trip. I think grocery stores are good places to learn about culture. If you ever go to Cincinnati, Colorado, or Charlotte, you should visit a grocery store too. You will see many interesting things.

Now, when I go back to my country, I can tell my friends about grocery stores in America. I can say, “In America, people buy big bottles of milk,” or “They have many types of bread.” It makes me happy to learn small things like this.
